Following Pakistan’s poor performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) might make some changes in the national cricket team.
However, according to Geo News, Babar Azam is set to continue as captain in white-ball cricket after the World Cup.
It must be noted that the Green Shirts faced a historic defeat against the USA on June 6 while also going down by 6 runs in their face-off with India on June 9 during the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Pakistan struggled in the match against Canada as well on Tuesday (June 11). They were able to chase 107 runs only within 17.3 overs.
Earlier, in a conversation with the Geo News, Chairman of the PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, was questioned about the board’s opinion over Pakistan’s constant poor performance.
“The team is still playing in the World Cup; the nation has to be patient with them. There are still matches left to play and we should wait for the outcome of the tournament,” said Naqvi.
Pakistan will be facing Ireland on Sunday (June 16) at the Central Broward Regional Park.
The path to the Super 8s for the Pakistan is tough but not impossible.
The following results of Group A teams will ensure Pakistan’s qualification in the Super 8s stage of the T20 World Cup 2024:
June 14: USA vs Ireland: — Ireland win
June 15: Canada vs India — India win
June 16: Ireland vs Pakistan — Pakistan win
If all of the above-mentioned matches give the same results as listed then Pakistan will have four points in four games. India will have eight and the USA will have the same points as Pakistan. Canada and Ireland will have two points each at the end of the group-stage games.
Even still, Pakistan will need to register a win against Ireland with a big margin to improve their net run rate as their points will be the same as the USA so net run rate will come into play. Moreover, Green Shirts and Pakistan fans need to hope that the USA lose their last match against Ireland and it doesn't get washed out due to rain.
